One of the single most important scenes glee has ever done
This is part of why I don’t like when people blindly hate on Glee - yes it has a lot of parts that are off, and it follows through with a lot of the tropes of many other TV shows. But then it has absolutely amazing scenes like this that are emotional and different and handle it beautifully. Things people, especially young people, actually need to see. The opening part, where she says “No that’s just the thing, I love you”. How often do you see that. With abusive relationships usually they just make the character learn to hate them, but that isn’t how life works. Many abusive people never learn to hate their abuser, hard as they try. That isn’t the point of leaving. It’s learning to love yourself more, to realize that just because you love someone doesn’t mean you need them, doesn’t justify what they do.
That’s important. That’s why I could never say I “hate” Glee. Even if for the most part, I was never an enormous fan, I can still acknowledge it has a lot of great scenes in it and a lot of really touching, important moments in it.
